Saint Francis School, which will be hosting a Strike Out Cancer Tournament in softball, has made 7-year-old leukemia patient Bailey Reindollar an honorary team member.

Bailey, of Kailua, will be honored at 8 a.m. Saturday at Central O’ahu Regional Park, official site of the 16-team event that starts with a single game today and ends Sunday and features the state’s top softball teams.

Bailey, who is halfway through chemo treatments, won’t be at the tournament opener but she will throw out a pitch to start Saturday’s games.

The Saint Francis team spent an evening with the 7-year-old Monday at Round Table Pizza in Kailua. The team gave her a Saint Francis uniform and cap. Coach Mark Glushenko designated her No. 1.

The tournament features ‘Iolani, Punahou, Kamehameha, Mid-Pacific, Maryknoll, Pac-Five, Sacred Hearts and Saint Francis of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu; Kalāheo, Waialua, Kailua, Mililani, Kapolei and Castle of the O’ahu Interscholastic Association, and Kapa’a and Kaua’i of the Kaua’i Interscholastic Federation.

The tournament is designed to raise funds and call attention to the work of the Hawai’i Children’s Cancer Foundation, the team’s partner for the tournament.

The HCCF provides services and programs to the families of cancer-stricken children, including financial assistance, support groups, social events, education and advocacy.
