This afternoon at Iolani School Gym the cheering for the Saints was very loud.  Saints’ fans were all over the gym.  A victory would mean a trip to the State Division II Tournament.  In the first set with the Saints holding a slim lead over La Pietra 10-7  junior Jedidah Hanakahi entered the game and serving very well helped up increase the lead to 13-7.  La Pietra had a short rally and closed to 14-10.  Now enter senior defensive specialist Taylor Asao and she promptly served tough and we passed well and increased the lead 20-10.  Senior Ashley Silva had a great block and we went up 23-12.  The final score was 25-13.  Sophomore Angel Savea had 7 kills, sophomore Kalei Mau had 3 kills and 2 blocks and junior Harlee Meyers chipped in with 3 kills.  In the second set we traded points early and then we got some outstanding serving from libero sophomore Leila Matsumoto in her serving run recorded two aces as we pulled away  17-7.  We won the set 25-18.  Angel had 4 kills, Jedidah, Kalei and Harlee each had 3 kills.  Coach Sonia substituted freely in the second part of the set.  With the state berth on their mind, just win one set well the dream almost burst.  We started by serving the ball out of bounds and La Pietra jumped to a  0-7 lead.  We started to climb back slowly and finally we caught them when Harlee served an ace to tie the score at 15. Then it was back and forth to the finish.  With the score 23-22 there was a long rally until Angel put down a ball for a 24-22 lead.  La Pietra got a point and were serving down by just one and then served the ball out.  We won 25-23 what a great comeback.  Angel had 4 kills, Kalei had 3 kills and Ashley had 2 kills.  With all these kills it usually means several things like the setting of Senior Mahina Galletes and sophomore Lexis Satele and the defense in the back row of Leila, Taylor, & junior Chelsie Rutkowski.  It was a great team victory and now it is on to the state tournament.  Congratulations to Coach Sonia and her excellent staff.  The tournament will be held Oct. 27-30, 2010 at McKinley & Kalani High Schools.

In ILH play our Varsity was 10-8, J.V. was 13-1 and our Intermediate was 14-0.  Our overall record was 37-9 for a .804 percentage—Coach Sonia and you staff—THANK YOU
